Tristan was referred to our office by another body builder and gym owner. If you would like to train with Tristan, please contact him via Instagram or his website. He came into the office with sciatica and low back pain. Many skilled chiropractors can palpate to feel something “different”. However, with Gonstead chiropractic, we also take full-spine x-rays to confirm our findings. Tristan’s X-Rays revealed he had six lumbars, a spondylolisthesis, and a partial fusion at L6 to sacrum. Most people have five lumbars, though there are a few with four or six. Tristan also had a spondylolisthesis at L6, which was partially fused at the right transverse process to the sacrum. This means part of the vertebra at L6 was broken, either congenitally or due to trauma. Many times, there is cartilage holding the spinous process in place of the bone. Many spondylolisthesis are very stable and most patients don’t even know they have them. Some, however, can trace them to specific activities. Gymnasts, for example, have a propensity for them due to the excessive extension.
In this case, we set the sacrum. Instrumentation reading showed the break was at the sacrum and the sacrum was posterior on the x-rays. Post-instrumentation after the adjustment showed a clear reading.
Although this case presents a lot of complexities, a skilled Gonstead Chiropractor can handle these difficult cases. With Gonstead chiropractic, we also use instrumentation to locate the subluxation. Static palpation confirms inflammation due to damaged discs. Muscle spasm also comes as a result of nerve interference. Because anytime there is nerve interference, muscles can spasm. X-rays also confirm misalignment.
A subluxation is a condition where a spinal bone shifts out of position and interferes with the integrity of the nervous system. Since the nervous system controls all function, a subluxation can have a negative effect on the entire body and brain.
Patient reports symptoms getting better including: sciatica, back pain, fatigue, gluts, and pain with prolonged standing.
If you have one of these conditions and are symptomatic, schedule a consult with a Gonstead Chiropractor. We are not surgeons, but we’ve seen very severe spondys with no or minimal symptoms. If your MD recommends surgery, you should get a second opinion from another health professional and a Gonstead chiropractor.
This video shows a Gonstead chiropractic adjustment used to reduce nerve interference to the body and brain, allowing normal function to take place. Gonstead chiropractic is a very specific, precise and effective chiropractic technique that only a small percentage of chiropractors are trained to do. Are you experiencing these symptoms and have found no relief? Call your Gonstead chiropractor today at 760-729-8802 to schedule an appointment.
This case presents with sacral anomalies and a massively developed individual. Stabilizing him is a task due to the large shoulders and skinny waist. He’s also extremely flexible; so you must take out the slack with him. In this case, due to the posteriority of the sacrum, it may be a safer to start here and not L6.
